How Do I Get a Credit Report

A poor credit rating will affect your request in a negative way, either by your being denied your loan or mortgage outright or by high interest rates being levied against your loan. There are other reasons for keeping an eye on your report as well, such as helping to make sure you do not become a victim of identity theft-something that is becoming increasingly more common. You can also make sure that the information reported on your report is accurate and instantly spot any trouble areas which may lead to a lowering of your credit score. Everyone is entitled to receive a free report from each of the three main consumer agencies, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, upon request, once a year.

The three main agencies have collaborated to set up a central website, a toll free number and and a mailing address where you can submit your request. To order your report simply fill in the details asked and either submit the form via the website, call your information in on a toll free number, or mail it to the Annual Credit Report agency. In addition, and as a further security measure, you will be asked for specific financial details that only you would be likely to know, such as specific monthly loan payments you are making. As there are reports issued from each of the three different companies you may be asked for different financial details from each company.
